🧩 About the Role

We are hiring a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our globally distributed team. You will work across the entire stack (backend, frontend, and infrastructure) on software that is actively transforming public administration in Germany, a domain where reliability, security, and data privacy are non-negotiable.

This is a senior, high-ownership role for an engineer who can lead technical decisions, raise the bar for those around them, and move fluidly between designing an API, shipping a user-facing feature, and debugging a production Kubernetes deployment. We are looking for someone who combines strong engineering fundamentals with judgment, initiative, and a genuine desire to understand the product deeply.

✅ Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful depth across both backend and frontend development
• Proven track record of designing, shipping, and operating scalable APIs and production systems at non-trivial scale
• Strong command of asynchronous programming, type systems, and modern architectural patterns
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines in production environments
• Working knowledge of Redis, caching strategies, and job queue design
• Demonstrated ability to lead ambiguous technical initiatives end-to-end: scoping, designing, shipping, maintaining and owning its performance in production
• A genuine ownership mindset: you ship it, you operate it, and you care about rollout quality, system behavior, user impact, and whether the solution actually holds up in the real world

⭐️ Preferred qualifications

• Experience architecting systems in regulated, compliance-sensitive, or public-sector environments
• Strong grounding in security best practices (e.g., OWASP, threat modeling, secure SDLC)
• Experience mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar of a team
• Background in observability, incident response, and production operations
• Strong product instinct and curiosity: you want to understand not just how the system works, but why users rely on it

🤖 How We Approach AI in Engineering

We embrace AI coding tools, they help us move faster. However, because we build for public administration, we hold a high bar for how they are used. We are looking for senior engineers who:

• Treat AI as a collaborator, not an oracle. You read every line, understand it, and take responsibility for it landing in main.
• Never paste data, secrets, or proprietary code into public AI tools. GDPR compliance and data residency are foundational requirements, not afterthoughts.
• Recognize AI's blind spots: hallucinated APIs, outdated packages, subtly insecure patterns, and plausible-but-wrong logic.
• Write the tests AI did not suggest. Edge cases and adversarial inputs remain a human responsibility.
• Know when not to use AI. Authentication, cryptography, access control, and core architectural decisions warrant human-first thinking.

We do not measure productivity by lines of code generated. We measure it by problems solved well.

🛠️ Our Stack

Our current stack includes TypeScript, Node.js, React, PostgreSQL, Prisma, Redis, Docker, and Kubernetes. That said, we care far more about strong engineering fundamentals than familiarity with any specific tool. A senior engineer with solid foundations will ramp up on our stack quickly.
